Menti-B

Menti-B

Menti-B is a community based mental health app where users can join forums, attend peer support groups, engage in live chat rooms, track their moods and find resources to improve their emotional well-being and find a safe space with an empathetic community.

We conducted user interviews with 5 users and these are some of the findings

“I've been in group therapy. usually in an intensive IOP or inpatient mental health. I liked some aspects of it. it was hard given the environment im in but the actual group therapy was positive.”

Mara

“I feel an existential loneliness. don’t sit with it very long. try to talk to people who understand”

— Jay

“The compulsive tendencies make me spend a lot of money. so my finances are pretty jacked. A lot of my time has been filled with mental health stuff. It’s unlikely I’ll have a romantic partner again.”

— Stuart

“I limit myself and don’t buy food, or when no ones around take care of my nutrition. I get burnt out and anxiety fast and it’s hard to get out of my head”

— Noor

We then conducted quantitative research by putting out a survey and compiling data surrounding social media, mental health loneliness and community.

Hypothesis Statement

People with mental health issues could benefit from an app that creates a safe space where they can talk about their mental health and connect with others going through the same struggles.

We created an affinity diagram in order organize our research findings. The key takeaways were:

  • Most users have been to therapy

  •  All of the users have tried natural remedies for their mental health issues

  • Most of the users say their mental health gets in the way of their lives

Problem Statement

We believe we can help users with mental health issues improve their emotional well-being by providing a platform that connects them with a community that shares their struggles.

We created an empathy map to try and understand our user on a deeper level. We dove deep on how she feels, thinks, what she does and says. We identified pain points and potential gains.

User Insight Statement

Mara needs to feel a sense of community and find a safe space online for sharing her mental health issues because she struggles to come across people who grapple with the same mental health issues as her, which results in her feeling lonely.

Story Board

We conducted usability testing on our Lo-Fi prototype and this is some of the feedback we received

Conclusion

In Conclusion, through testing, we found that users would love to engage in a community based mental health app that provides them with a safe space to share similar experiences of their mental health issues.
